Soggy Season Opener for Inferno

The first game of the Lancaster Inferno’s 2015 season with the WPSL League Power 5 Conference got off to a rough start.

After much anticipation about playing at Millersville University’s beautiful new soccer stadium, Pucillo Field, Inferno’s first game of the season had a rain delay so started an hour and 15 minutes late.

The visiting team was Jersey Blues FC, a traditionally strong opponent. At minute 29 Jersey Blues player, Ashley Sanchez (#7), scored their first goal (unassisted). It was followed seven minutes later by an Inferno goal by Lauren Fredericks (#27), assisted by Shyanne Kimbrough (#32).

Just four minutes later, Olivia Novak (#23) made a nice pass to Fredericks, who then scored a second goal for Inferno. The lead was shortlived as just a minute later, Jamie Delaney (#6) from Jersey Blues made an unassisted goal.

At half time the game was tied, 2-2. Just six minutes into the second half Kimbrough made an unassisted goal for Lancaster Inferno, but again our lead was quickly lost as Jersey Blues player Delaney scored their third goal 3 minutes later.

Ten minutes later (at minute 64), Delaney scored her third unassisted goal for Jersey Blues, which gave them a 4-3 lead. Another 10 minutes later, Inferno player Fredericks scored her third goal with a nice head ball from a corner kick by Trisha Clark (#8), tying the game at 4-4.

Two minutes later, Jersey Blues gained the lead again with a pass from Holly Miles (#14), to Tuere Chisholm-Thomas (#12). Just two minutes later, Inferno’s Kara Weller (#6) scored, assisted by Victoria Kramer (#3).

This exciting, action-packed game ended with a 5-5 tie. A player from each team (Jamie Delaney for Jersey Blues FC and Lauren Fredericks for Lancaster Inferno) led the scoring with hat tricks.

Lancaster Inferno’s next game is at 6:00pm on Saturday, May 30th against a familiar rival, Buxmont Torch, at Pucillo Field.
